How Do I Increase My Vertical Jump?

Even though I am reaching the final years of the prime of my life, I still love a good game of basketball. That said, I have always wanted to achieve a 50 inch vertical jump. No matter how hard I try, this particular goal has eluded me. I would like to increase my vertical jump before I am unable to play basketball with my friends and children.
